QUINTE WEST · GOLD CARD FIELD GUIDE

What should a Quinte West applicant have in writing from a Gold Card sponsor before paying anything?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

A written statement of who pays the gift and the processing fee, whether either is treated as her income, what she owes if she leaves the sponsor, which immigrant category the sponsor will support and with what job offer, and confirmation that the sponsor has read the official terms. Keep the official program text alongside the sponsor's statement and reconcile them.

Reconcile the sponsor's promise with the official text

The document that decides whether to proceed is not an application form but a comparison. On one side, print the official program page and Executive Order 14351 as of the date of the discussion. On the other, obtain the sponsor's written proposal.

Check each promise against the official text: the amount and destination of the gift, the processing fee and its non-refundable character, the immigrant basis, the role of the sponsoring employer, and any statement about timing. Where the sponsor's proposal says something the official text does not, ask for the source. Then add the employment terms: the position, salary, location, start date contingent on status, and the consequences of resignation or termination, including whether any amount becomes repayable.

Have the tax treatment reviewed, since a gift and fee paid on an employee's behalf may be income to her in one or both countries. Keep every version of the proposal; if terms change, the comparison must be redone.
